Pharohe Jahcovi Scott, 22 of the 400 block of South Albemarle Street, York, was spotted on security camera leaving a note reading “I have a IED in my car,” with a hand-drawn smiley face at Americold Logistics located at 3800 Hempland Road in Mountville, as stated in the DA's release.
Some employees found the note in a "public area on the business premises" around 9:07 a.m. on May 11, 2023, as detailed in the release.
The DA explained the police response as follows:
"Officers responded with assistance from Lancaster County Sheriff K-9s, a York County Sheriff K-9, and a Lancaster City K-9 to secure the area and clear the scene of any potential danger. Detectives determined through interviews with witnesses and video footage from the business that emptying and changing the trash can where the note was left was part of Scott’s daily duties."
On Dec. 12, 2023, the West Hempfield Township Police filed charges approved by the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office against Scott for two felonies: threatening to use weapons of mass destruction and terroristic threats in connection to the incident in May.
His preliminary arraignment was held before Magisterial District Judge Miles K. Bixler at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, according to the DA and verified by court documents. His bail was set at 10% cash for $15,000, which he failed to post, so he remains in the Lancaster County Prison as of Dec. 19. His preliminary hearing is set before Judge Bixler at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 20.
